Adding fractions

Grade 3 · Fractions

Add two fractions and give the answer as a fraction. Most questions have different denominators, so the first step is finding a common denominator. The step-by-step working shows both fractions rewritten over it before the numerators are added.

Equivalent answers are marked correct, so 6/8 and 3/4 both count. Writing the answer in its simplest form is practised separately in Simplifying fractions.
