Numbers&Me

Ordering activities by duration

Grade 3 · Time and calendars

A day's timetable lists four activities with start and end times, such as 11:30 to 2:00. The student works out how long each one lasts, then picks the list that orders them from longest to shortest (or the other way).

The timetable runs in time-of-day order, which looks like a plausible answer but never is. Durations are all different multiples of 15 minutes, so there are no ties.
