A number machine adds or takes away 10 or 100. Some questions ask what comes out, some what went in (running the machine backwards), some which rule the machine uses, and some chain two machines together.
About a third of the ±10 questions cross a hundred, like 396 + 10 or 503 − 10, where two digits change at once. That's where most slips happen.
