Two plans grow by a fixed amount each week: Plan A starts lower with a bigger raise, Plan B starts higher with a smaller one. They pay for a paper round or a job at a garden centre, or give points at each level of a game. The student finds which plan has paid more after a number of weeks and by how much, the first week Plan A pays more in that week, or the first week it is ahead altogether.
A week's pay and the running total catch up at different times, which is the trap. The working fills a table week by week, with each plan's pay and its total so far.
