Things set out in equal rows: the picture that later becomes multiplication. Questions ask the student to make an array by tapping dots on a grid, finish one that has gaps, work out one side of an array from the total, or write an array as a repeated addition.
An array can go anywhere on the grid. What's checked is its shape (one solid block, with the right rows) and the total.
