Measure things with a ruler in whole centimetres or inches. Some questions ask how long a thing is, some ask the student to drag a ribbon to a length, and some compare two things: how much longer is one?
Sometimes the thing doesn't start at 0, and the classic slip is to give the number at its end. Those questions check the student counts from where it starts.
