A number line is labelled only at its two ends and divided into equal parts, with an arrow on one of the ticks. The student picks the decimal the arrow marks.
The left end isn't always 0, and the line isn't always cut into tenths, so counting ticks without reading the labels gives the wrong answer. The wrong choices are the usual misreadings.
